High Traffic Linkers

by Paul on April 10th, 2005

Links and the ensuing traffic from sites like Slashdot can be quite a rush, last night they sent me 40,000 visitors in a few hours - however its worth keeping in mind that this kind of traffic doesn’t click on ads in as great a numbers as SE traffic. it has also been known to crash servers and cause sites to slow down heaps (so beware its a ride not for the feint hearted).

Ah, the mythical super-traffic sites. They do exist, but getting their attention can be a handful. However, if you write something worth linking to then there is a good chance it will get linked. Many times though you have to grab their attention by submitting your entry to them because it isn’t guaranteed that someone will submit it for you. There are a number of sites that can give a nice hit of traffic and cover many different niches and I think it would be a good idea to start a list of these sites so everyone can try and get their 10k/100k/1million pageviews per month.

Note that these are sites that accept submissions. You could always send an email to Kottke for example to checkout your entry, but it is no guarantee that he will. The sites in your list though will at least read the submission form information.

I know that I am missing a ton so help me make this list grow and I will continuously update the list as neededa.

Neither have self submit services but are open to you suggestions and do give credit to the sites that their tips come from

I actually have a 2 plans for this in the future. I have submitted myself to the 9rules Network, and given that I am accepted, I wish to suggest these (on those forums you talked about). These are no sure fire methods, and will not intially wield the slashdot effect.

However I have devised a handful of strategies that will in the end, help create the same effect. I can’t give away my ideas becasue I am greedy, but it is all based on a network of sites. And the 9rules Network would be a great place to implement and test out these theories.

And don’t forget Forever Geek…it allows you to submit your own news. I don’t know the exact traffic FG does a day, but I am fairly good with predictions; and I would say it does about 45,000 pageviews, with 20,000 unique hits a day (weekdays).

Hell, Scrivs may have a low opinion of himself. But you take the average, 2 days on the index, with 90,000 pageviews in those two days…with the visit site link…you are looking at about 30K hits right there. Then once it is indexed, there is still new traffic…sooner or later your site becomes the top page rank for that particular search string.

As Peter Griffin once said; it’s win freaking win baby!

Not super traffic sites but in the same context as the previously mentioned and accept story ideas.

    How about kur5hin? http://www.kuro5hin.org/

I don’t think you can submit to kuro5hin, but a member has to write about it and then it has to make it to the frontpage.

anyone can submit to kuro5hin after a simple registration. the article is then “on hold”, and everyone registered can vote for of against it. once it reaches a positive or negative threshold, it gets posted or trashed.

Digg, but you must get on the frontpage.
