WDDB and Revenue Plans

So I have launched a new site on the network: Web Drug Database. Many people are questioning the reasoning behind launching something like this, but I have received numerous emails from other folks who also see the revenue opportunities behind a site like this. I figured I would describe here what my plans are for the site and how I see money coming in from it.

Adsense

The obvious scheme is to implement Adsense on the site. With some of the drug ads the CPC should be decent as compared to other type of ads.

With the content that is available people who come to the site will be looking for information for their own research or looking to purchase the drugs so Adsense should have decent clickthrough rate with the ads. Of course only time will tell.

Amazon Store

The second obvious thing is to add an Amazon backend to the site as has become the norm with all my new sites. But what products do I sell on such a site.

First I can start with books that pertain to the subject matter along with other health topics. Secondly, if you search closely you will see that Amazon has a health products store where the sell items such as Tylenol, band-aids, etc. Now bought in increments of one or two items this does not amount to much, but these items are usually purchased in bulk and we all know this can add up.

Affiliate Programs

There is a reason that prescription drugs is a competitive field that everyone recommends you stay away from and that is because it pays off really well. Reading the Whitespace entry you will see that I had no intention initially of trying to compete with the millions of other sites out there, but one thing led to another and now the site exists. In any case there are a couple of affiliate programs that I am looking at that I can sell the prescription drugs through.

Once I decide on a couple I will post the links and allow visitors to compare prices from the different sites.

Search Box

Unsure if I am going to go with Adsense search or for this, but on the bottom of each page I will have a search box with the drug already in the search field and the reader can search for more information on the web pertaining to that drug.

I am a nice guy

Now all the really successful people I know would probably shoot me for detailing these plans to everyone, but I just wanted to show you how one can go about planning their revenue generation with their sites. Once you start taking an interest in making money you begin to see things that others will quickly overlook. It takes time and research, but it pays off in the end.

Getting people to the site might be almost impossible due to the huge competition, but this site started off as an experiment and I am still going to treat it as such. I will make sure to keep everyone updated on how well it performs in the upcoming months.

Now there are other ways to bring in money from the site, but I don’t know if I am going to touch them. In any case I will detail those in other entries.
