Google Reader “Trends” Lets You Analyze Your Feeds

by kris on May 30th, 2007

I have a tendency to add feeds to quickly and not delete irrelevant ones so the most recent Google Reader addition is much to my pleasure for optiming my time.

The link to Google Reader Trends has been added near the “starred items” and “shared items” links on your reader. The service (which has apparently been monitoring for some time before going live) tracks the total feeds you have how many items you’re read (vs. skipped), and the number of items starred or shared over the last 30 days.

The system is also able to track the feeds you read the most over the 30 day period as well as the most updated.  Finally, the service has a tag cloud which displays your biggest tags in bigger text and your most frequently read tags in a darker text.

I really like this service for determining what I read most often (MMA news) versus what I tend to skip over (video games). While the service provides very useful data take it with a grain of salt. While I tend to skip a lot of video game items, this is because there are so many updates and not because of disinterest. This service should help you sort through your feeds with much more ease.
