AdSense Now Has Real-Time Channel Reporting

by Paul on April 5th, 2005

This is awesome. This is what I have been waiting for and now it has arrived. Instead of having to wait the two day delay to check on which channels are performing you can now get the results in real-time (or as real-time as AdSense gets).

They have also added the ability to show data by individual ad unit, which means…I have no idea what this means. It seems to just separate the page impressions vs. the ad unit impressions. Don’t know how useful that is, but I am not too worried about it. If someone has a better understanding of that and can see the value in it please let me know.

The only problem is now that stat-checking will become a sickness and they will have to create specialized doctors that can handle any person that feels the need to check their stats every single hour of the day. I certainly need to make an appointment.

UPDATE: Ah, I think I get. If you had 3 ad units on one page for example before then it would show 3 views, but now it will show either 1 pageview or 3 adviews. Or something like that.

1 opinion for AdSense Now Has Real-Time Channel Reporting

Yeah, it’s way better now. In the past if you had multiple ads on a page the reports could throw some deceiving numbers. By telling us pageviews, that gives us a real idea of the number of, eh, pageviews. Instead of just “ads served.”

The per page vs per ad unit only helps if you have multiple ads on a page. E.g. if you have a “left nav ads” channel & a “masthead ads” channel, & had ads for both channels on the same page, you can now see the CTR of the channels individually (i.e. do people click on the left nav or the masthead more?) or the page as the whole (does anyone click any ad on the page at all?).
