He’s Being Manipulative
Everyone is writing about Mark Cuban saying that the Internet is dead and boring. A couple of them have come close…
He’s being manipulative! I think he’s offering to throw his hat in the ring as a partner with Google, which will create more than enough capital to make a winning bid on the spectrum auction, together they’ll then provide opportunity for innovation and create enough growth in bandwidth availability for every new application that comes down the pike for the next twenty years! Meanwhile, they’ll put the screws to the telecoms, becoming the new monopolistic masters while putting the newly reorganized AT&T/Bell monopoly out to pasture.
Read between the lines in this statement;
“In fact, if you index the expected growth in bandwidth consumption by applications that are heavy LAST MILE bandwidth users (as opposed to the Internet backbone where there is plenty of bandwidth but consumers cant get to it) vs the actual increase in LAST MILE bandwidth available to the home, our net effective throughput to the home could decline over the next few years. The Internet is like a highway. There is plenty of room for everyone to go as fast as the throughput will let you go, that is until the traffic forces everyone to slow down.”
Last Mile. Consumers can’t get to it. Sounds exactly like a Net Neutrality discussion.
[Well, I’ll be darned - looks like AT&T isn’t only censuring Pearl Jam, they’re blocking international text/calls. I’d like to hear the reason for that along with an explanation for what Sarah, along with many others, describes as “craptacular customer service.”]
