4th Quarter is Coming, Are You Ready?
October through December are the months that most retailers look forward to because it means the holidays are coming. Being an online affiliate marketer is no different and 4th quarter sales are usually much greater than what one can achieve during the first three quarters of the year.
For some people the 4th quarter represents 80% of their annual sales. 80%!!! Since this will be my first 4th quarter making money online I really have no idea of what to expect, but I do know of some ways that I can prepare for the season.
Tracking Stats
If people are making more money from their stores, sites, etc. then that means more people are visiting them. Tracking stats during this period is key since you don’t have much time to improve performance through search engines. You should already be measuring everything and making sure your traffic is not showing a significant dropoff since the Summer.
Sales and Clearances
People are looking for great deals during the season since they have a lot of shopping to do. Even though you might not be able to control the price of some of the items you sell it doesn’t mean you can’t show your visitors what type of savings they are getting. Look for the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price of your item and compare it to how much your merchant is selling it for. Calculate the savings and make sure the visitor is aware of those savings.
Seasonal Trends
Find out what is hot for the holiday months and go for it. Obviously not too many people are going to go for sunglasses so don’t waste your time promoting those types of items.
Content
Content sites shouldn’t really see a large effect one way or another unless their content is geared towards seasonal trends. Just keeping writing (a page a day can work wonders) and let the rest take care of itself.
More Resources
A great resource has been put together by 37signals with their Holiday E-Commerce Ideas site. Follow these guidelines and you should be good to go.
