Michael Kovatch and Apple IPhone - Forever Linked

by Mark on July 2nd, 2007

At least on the Internet…

IPhone.com - Michael Kovatch registered the domain name in 1995. That’s right. On June 29th, 2007 Apple purchased the domain name from Michael for something in the neighborhood of $1 Million, possibly more.

According to the DomainTools Blog “The Traffic on the domain had begun to skyrocket in the last 6 months and it showed good signs of potential. Michael settled for a huge check instead of trying to realizing the potential of the domain.”

Soooo - how does that grab ya’? Apple only purchased the domain name June 29th! Wow…

In another interesting entry regarding the IPhone domains, Jay Westerdal tells us;

“By popular request we have gone through the list of IPhone domains and picked out some good ones. We have seen that there must have been rumors last year because a few California people registered some really good IPhone domains months before the rumors really picked up.

Apple’s legal team has a long couple of years ahead of it. It was behind on the trademark and now it is behind on the domains. Perhaps Apple can afford to ignore the domains, after all we are only talking a few million dollars left on the table. Apple will make over $150 Million in the first week selling the IPhone.”
