Getting Rich from Text-Link-Ads

by admin on August 20th, 2006

There’s a relatively new method of earning money in town and yep it’s by selling Text-Link-Ads (aff). When contextual advertising arrived in town, everybody rushed for their tools and pumped out content rich websites. But then Google got smarter. A frontpage based website with content from Ezinearticles.com no longer ranked and therefore webmasters were lost. We had to actually create real websites with real content.

Sometimes the content we love to create doesn’t come with a high cost per click. If you write a blog such as this, you’ll learn that Adsense doesn’t pay .. and doesn’t pay well.

By selling Text-Link-Ads, I’m officially earning more than what Adsense will ever bring in. There seems to be a new “plan of action” to make money online amongst the webmaster world, so let me lay it down straight.

  1. Create a blog, full of rich content.
  2. Use existing sites with high page ranks to boost the site’s PR.
  3. Signup with Text-Link-Ads
  4. With a PR6 site and moderate traffic, you can earn around US$180 a month with ease.
  5. Multiple this by 5 and you have yourself a winner.

I know a few people that have taken this approach and seem to be doing quite well.

In discussion with Yaro the other day, I mentioned that I had sold out of Text-Link-Ads here on Work Boxers and that he had also. For both of us, it’s an incredible way to earn money online - our blogs don’t have the type of content needed to attract high paying keywords and most of our readers are web/tech savvy and won’t click adverts.

I’ve been more than happy with the performane of Text Link ads on my blogs. The only thing i have noticed is that it seems hard to get the first sale on higher rated (PR5 or more) blogs, i’m guessing most because of the cost as opposed to advertising on several cheaper blogs

Yeah, once you’ve got a few sales, the rest come in. I must admit, it did take almost 2 months to fill 10 link spots, though I’m not really sure if that’s good or bad.

Anyhow, it’s still a great way to earn a passive income :)

I’ve had TLAs on my site for almost 2 months now. My first few sales came quickly, but since my 3rd sale I’ve had no more. Got any tips for selling more links, Jamsi?

Jamsi .. since you were in conversation with Yaro about selling out of link space .. maybe this would be a good spot and time to ask you (and anyone) this question.,.

If you sold out on Text-Link-Ads .. would you just increase the number of spots available and get more advertisers to fill demand? (I’m not even sure if you are allowed to do that anyway)

I also have a site that all 8 spots are filled. Of course, what’s filled today might not be the case tomorrow and while I’m appreciative of the 8 advertisers on my site now, I don’t expect them to stay linked in perpetuity. I wonder if I should increase my offering to 10 spots or more or if this will deter the popularity of linking on my blog in the first place. Kind of like the chicken and the egg question.

    Hi Hart,

TLA can get a little strange when upping the limit. I did change mine to allow 10 link spots, and according to my publisher stats I’ve sold out.

However I can only see 9 spots on the sidebar here hehe.

I’d say go for it and fill demand .. and as long as your site has quality content and some STRONG back links, you shouldn’t have too much of a problem with outgoing link quality.

Jamsi - I’ve tried to add TLA to my site a few times now, without success (which sucks because I have a PR6 site with reasonable traffic.

I’m using Movable Type (for my sins) and have been unable to setup the TLA code and rebuild my template without getting a CGI error.

Unfortunately, the TLA support wasn’t very helpful. Any ideas? (Let me guess: ‘Switch to Wordpress’?)

I have been able to get AdBrite set up (thanks to it only requiring a single line of JavaScript), but haven’t had any advertisers sign up yet.

[…] I’ve got a special treat for my readers today, an interview with Patrick Gavin, the President of Text Link Ads Inc. I’ve written previously about my (and others) success with Text-Link-Ads as a way of earning money from your blog, however there were still questions yet to be answered. Others had also contacted me asking questions such as “why was I rejected?” or “what determines the price of a text-link-ad?” […]

[…] Next, there’s Text Link Ads which is an easy-to-use service for allowing advertisers to purchase links on your site. Doing research on Text Link Ads is a bit harder, you’re not necessarily going to find any best practices on how to use them. But there’s a great article at Work Boxers titled Getting Rich from Text-Link-Ads (and he’s done other posts on them too) which can help. […]

Excellent read, I’ve got Text Link Ads setup, but have yet to make a sale now myself. I’m itching to get that first sale, even if it was $10/month.
