So where is Basil ..

by admin on August 1st, 2006

An interesting concept has formed from Liz’s open mic night, where Ben (IGotNewsForYou) came up with the concept of allowing a Faulty Towers DVD to travel the world. I’ll let him explain;

What if we could get the Fawlty Towers DVD Collection to travel the globe, going from person to person? A project about connecting with others, making new friends and laughter.
“Where Is Basil ?” was born.
This project is all about creating a community and having that community participate in one of the greatest travel adventures ever! Plus, it’s just plain funny…and who doesn’t like a bit of humor?

Fascinating concept and a novelty I can see taking off, despite each person paying the postage fee.

But what if we did a similar concept, but instead of sharing a DVD, we shared back links? Imagine one week, hundreds, perhaps thousands of sites all linking to you and then the next week, all linking to another site who was next in queue.

While I doubt it would affect your page rank due to the shortness of the back links, I bet it’ll sure trip out the ole Googlebot :)

    Jamsi — thanks for the link love, it’s appreciated. Someone has already signed up having read your post. I hope more do.

    It’s a fun concept, totally frivolous but interesting just the same. It’s a great experiment in word-of-mouth and viral marketing.

    And Fawlty Towers is hysterical. I don’t care how old you are, you’ll enjoy it. If you like slapstick and physical comedy, Fawlty Towers is for you.

    Thanks again!
